"If I had to stand up before an audience and be just Mary Alden, I should be helpless from embarrassment and self-consciousness. It's only because I can pretend to be someone else that I am able to play at all."

(Mary Alden, attrice; New York, 18 giugno 1883 – Woodland Hills, 2 luglio 1946)

Barbara Leonard, nata Barbara Anderson, attrice.

(Ernest Miller Hemingway, scrittore e giornalista; Oak Park, 21 luglio 1899 – Ketchum, 2 luglio 1961)

Ci sentiamo truffati. Il fallimento è la norma."

(Vladimir Vladimirovič Nabokov, scrittore, poeta, saggista, critico letterario, drammaturgo; San Pietroburgo, 22 aprile 1899 – Montreux, 2 luglio 1977)

"There are two reasons why I am successful in show business and I am standing on both of them."

(Betty Grable, all'anagrafe Elizabeth Ruth Grable, ballerina, attrice, modella e cantante; Saint Louis, 18 dicembre 1916 – Santa Monica, 2 luglio 1973)

"The time to worry is three months before a flight. Decide then whether or not the goal is worth the risks involved. If it is, stop worrying. To worry is to add another hazard. It retards reactions, makes one unfit. . . . Hamlet would have been a bad aviator. He worried too much."
(Amelia Mary Earhart, aviatrice; Atchison, 24 luglio 1897 – Oceano Pacifico, 2 luglio 1937)
"This is a strange business. You can train for something that never happens, or you can get discovered and turned into a star because you happen to be in the right spot at the right moment. That's really no way to prepare for anything. Certainly you cannot plan or map out a career."
(Lee Ann Remick, attrice; Quincy, 14 dicembre 1935 – Los Angeles, 2 luglio 1991)
"I don't act. I react."
(James Maitland Stewart, attore e militare; Indiana, 20 maggio 1908 – Beverly Hills, 2 luglio 1997)
"The best way to launch an Italian restaurant is to have it raided because the Mafia eats there. Everybody knows they eat well."
(Mario Gianluigi Puzo, scrittore e sceneggiatore; New York, 15 ottobre 1920 – Long Island, 2 luglio 1999)
"I'm a frustrated would-be architect, who stumbled into the would-be business of making movies."
(Michael Cimino, regista, sceneggiatore, scrittore; New York, 3 febbraio 1939 – Beverly Hills, 2 luglio 2016)
