"My agent called me up, I went in for a reading and got it. Then later on I was asked to read for a part in another episode where I would have played a hooker. A very hard, tough woman. The girl in "Singapore" wasn't really a hooker -- she was more of a dance-hall girl. But this one was a real prostitute. So I dressed the part. Heavy makeup, ripped hose, the whole bit. I was on my way to the reading when my car broke down on the freeway. There I was, in my hooker outfit, out on the L.A. freeway! By myself! I thought, "I am DEAD. It was corny stuff! Even back then, it was corny. I just told them that, flat-out. I said, "This sucks!" I said, "Am I supposed to laugh or cry when I say this?" The producer said (soothing voice) "We know, it needs work, we'll fix it." I guess they liked what they saw, my reactions or whatever, because I got the part." Carlo, detto Magno, o Carlomagno, in tedesco Karl der Große, in francese Charlemagne, in latino Carolus Magnus (2 aprile 742 – Aquisgrana, 28 gennaio 814), fu re dei Franchi dal 768, re dei Longobardi dal 774 e, dall'800, primo imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero. L'appellativo Magno (in latino Magnus, "grande") gli fu dato dal suo biografo Eginardo, che intitolò la sua opera Vita et gesta Caroli Magni.
L'8 gennaio 1166 Carlo Magno venne canonizzato in Aquisgrana dall'antipapa Pasquale III su ordine dell'imperatore Federico Barbarossa. Ci fu imbarazzo per questa canonizzazione in ambito cristiano a causa della vita privata non irreprensibile dell'imperatore (5 mogli ufficiali e un sacco di figli anche da un gran numero di concubine). Il Concilio Lateranense III, nel marzo 1179, dichiarò nulli tutti gli atti compiuti dall'antipapa Pasquale III, ivi compresa dunque la canonizzazione di Carlo Magno. Ad oggi, il culto viene celebrato nella sola diocesi di Aquisgrana e ne viene tollerata la celebrazione nei Grigioni. (da Wikipedia)
