"I think if somebody started out to shock now they wouldn’t be able to, as people are more blasé about transgressional things. But also there would be no point. A lot of people went on to use shocking imagery or similar imagery to what Throbbing Gristle started out using — references to concentration camps or whatever – but for totally the wrong reason: not because they wanted to make a comment on the political situation in the world now, but just because they wanted to be, ‘How naughty is that?’"
